Evaluating and Rehabilitating Hip Injuries: A Motor Control Approach
Course Description
Focused on the latest evidence-based practices in evaluation and rehabilitation of hip pain and injuries, this course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage patient care throughout the rehabilitation journey.
The course delves into the intricacies of hip anatomy, includes differential diagnosis, and outlines the different phases of a rehabilitation program. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of key evaluation tests and measures, and therapeutic interventions employed in each phase of patient recovery. Pain management strategies, patient education, neurological and motor control re-education, therapeutic exercise, functional training and appropriate strengthening exercises will be covered.
Furthermore, the course emphasizes the critical role of motor control in the rehabilitation of hip injuries, and its impact on movement patterns. This ensures participants can design rehabilitation programs that not only address physical limitations but also promote optimal neuromuscular control and stability of the hip joint.
Lastly, the course will include live lab sessions to allow participants to practice the skills they have learned. The lab portion of the course will include direct supervision from the instructor, with opportunities to obtain feedback in real time and optimize learner outcomes. Participants will leave this course with actionable skills that they can take with them to the clinic and begin using immediately.
By attending this course, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will be empowered to:
- Perform a thorough patient history that is specific to the needs of a patient with hip pain and injury.
- Perform a thorough evaluation of the patient with hip pain.
- Differentially diagnose sources of hip pain and dysfunction based on patient demographics, history, pain presentation and objective findings.
- Develop individualized rehabilitation programs based on the diagnosis as well as specific patient needs, impairments and limitations.
- Implement safe and effective manual therapy techniques for optimal recovery.
- Progress patients through a rehabilitation program, incorporating motor control exercises for improved function.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Evaluate patients with hip pain and injuries using evidence-based methods.
- Differentiate and diagnose the underlying causes of hip pain and dysfunction.
- Develop individualized rehabilitation programs tailored to patient needs.
- Implement effective manual therapy techniques for hip rehabilitation.
- Progress patients through rehabilitation stages, emphasizing motor control.
- Collaborate with patients and referring providers for optimal outcomes.
