Evaluation and Treatment of Tactical Athletes
Course Description
This course will provide a firsthand guide to treating tactical professionals for the military, law enforcement and firefighting careers. It will cover biomechanics, screening, flexibility, core stability, dynamic balance and movement. Common injuries, approaches to treatment, LOD, profile, and return to work will also be discussed as well as the importance of tailoring these approaches to our community tactical professions such as, firefighters and police officers. Gaining a greater scope of understanding in how to address the unique needs of this patient population will allow for improved outcomes for tactical professionals.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss of the role of biomechanics in injury and injury prevention
- Assemble a battery of questions and screens that accomplish an efficient and effective musculoskeletal screen
- Determine readiness for working/return to work
- Identify risk factors that place individual at a greater probability of injury
- Explain how to improve treatment approaches for those in tactical roles
- Discuss return to work parameters
