Course Description
This course aims to help attendees understand the keys to meeting medical necessity guidelines in therapy documentation, with a special focus on definitions utilized by Medicare and other insurers to define reasonable and necessary care. The course will utilize Therapeutic Exercises (97110) and Neuromuscular Reeducation (97112) to help attendees better understand the fundamentals of proper documentation applied specifically to two of the most commonly billed codes by Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy staff.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Define “Evidence-based” and understand how it is determined in documentation.
- Analyze documentation using key words/principles outlined in Medicare’s definition.
- Recognize how medical necessity is demonstrated in typical components of therapy documentation.
- Meet, but not exceed, a patient’s needs with documentation.
- Define “Therapeutic Exercise” and “Neuromuscular Reeducation”.
- Identify testing options to determine the need for these interventions.
- Utilize evidence-based treatment strategies to support the skill of a therapist.
- Document to demonstrate the skilled nature of therapeutic exercise and neuromuscular reeducation.
