Fundamental Concepts in Hand Therapy
Course Description
This introductory course provides clinicians with the general information that would be beneficial for therapists who are new to working with hand therapy patients. The course will cover the basic anatomy of the upper extremity, the evaluation process including common assessment tools that may be used, common upper extremity diagnoses that an entry level practitioner may come across, as well as some other important considerations involved in treatment of the upper extremity.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify the anatomy of the upper extremity.
- Explain the evaluation process of the upper extremity, including assessment tools (ROM/strength/edema/ sensory/coordination)
- Recognize common hand injuries and diagnoses that are treated in hand therapy (nerve compression injuries, elbow/wrist/thumb tendonitis, common fractures, OA/RA)
