Course Description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of rehabilitation services for patients on mechanical ventilation across various patient populations. Therapists will gain comprehensive knowledge of the indications for mechanical ventilation, the different modes and parameters used, and the etiologies of common ventilation alarms. Special attention will be given to patient-specific considerations to optimize care and outcomes. Through a combination of lectures and case studies, students will develop the skills necessary to effectively manage and rehabilitate patients requiring mechanical ventilation, ensuring high-quality care tailored to individual needs.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recall normal physiology of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems
- Identify the indications(s) for mechanical ventilation
- Recall the modes and parameters/settings of mechanical ventilation
- Describe the etiology of common mechanical ventilation alarms
- List the patient population specific considerations for mechanical ventilation
