Recognition & Treatment of Shoulder and Elbow Injuries impacting Baseball Pitchers
Course Description
This course will include an overview for the causes of shoulder and elbow injuries among baseball pitchers. Through a lecture based format and through the use of video, this course will also provide information on specific injuries including detail of the mechanism, the pathology and recommended course of action. It is common for therapists to treat baseball pitchers especially in outpatient clinics. Knowledge of common injuries and their causes is important to understand appropriate assessment and treatment strategies.

Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand & identify common injuries to the shoulder and elbow of baseball pitchers.
- Understand what is unique about throwing related injuries
- Have a general understanding of management & treatment of shoulder and elbow injuries in baseball pitchers
Presenter – Andrew Arther, PhD(c), DPT, OCS, STC, CSCS
Andrew graduated with a DPT in 2005 from the University of Iowa. Andrew Arthur has over 10 years of clinical experience with specialties in sports and orthopaedics. He has a particular passion for the assessment, treatment and training of baseball pitchers. He is currently a PhDc working on his dissertation, which is a three part study specific to baseball pitchers with an overall goal of decreasing injury incidence. He has worked with baseball pitchers in multiple areas including physical therapy, strength and conditioning, injury prevention and throwing biomechanics.
