What Gives! Functional Movement Analysis, Lower Extremity Injury and Core Strength
Course Description
This course will cover the multifactorial components of examining and treating a patient with lower extremity pain, core weakness and movement dysfunction. Multifactorial components covered in this course include the relationship between lower extremity pain and topics to include Q-Angle, postural deficits, joint and fascia mobility issues, patellofemoral mobility deficits, myofascial trigger points and referred pain. Participants will review case studies and choose appropriate contributing factors to the patient’s movement dysfunction and lower extremity pain pattern. Participants will discuss and identify appropriate evidence-based treatment based on clinical presentation.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize and identify three frequent causes of lower extremity pain as presented in the course material.
- Develop two treatment choices to resolve lower extremity pain based on each of the following: lower extremity pain due to faulty movement patterns, lower extremity pain due to decreased motor control, lower extremity pain due to weakness and muscle overload.
- Examine the structure and function of the hip, knee, ankle and core muscular to determine common injury mechanisms due to muscle imbalance.
- Identify injury mechanisms and propose evidence-based treatment approaches for a variety of lower extremity injury types based on case study presentations.
- Identify postural contributions to lower extremity pain and injury based on a review of anatomy and case study presentation.
- Analyze contributing factors in patient case studies where lower extremity pain and dysfunction are presented with one or more contributing factors.
