Introduction to Medical Therapeutic Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis
Course Description
This 2 hour course will introduce participants to how medical therapeutic yoga can be utilized to address commonly found impairments, functional limitations, and participation restrictions in people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Additionally, the biopsychosocial model as it relates to Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) will also be discussed. This course will feature both lecture and guided MTY practice focused on helping PTs/PTAs & OTs/OTAs target behavior change, postural control, strength, and flexibility/spasticity deficits in individuals with Multiple Sclerosis. The course will also include a brief review of the disease course and common comorbidities and complaints of individuals living with MS.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Synthesize common comorbidities and complaints of individuals living with MS into a plan of care utilizing the MTY lens.
- Integrate appropriate tests and measures into clinical practice with individuals living with MS to capture progress due to therapy or progression of disease.
- Integrate common yoga poses utilizing the MTY approach into the plan of care of an individual with MS.
- Integrate the biopsychosocial philosophy for well-being into a plan of care to promote improved adherence and self-efficacy for physical activity

Satisfactory completion of this course will require the participant to complete a 10 question post-test with a minimum passing score of 70%.
