Essential Clinical Concepts in Biomechanical Analysis, Rehabilitation, and Injury Prevention for the Runner
Course Description
This is an interactive course to guide the clinician through biomechanical analysis, early and late rehabilitation, as well as performance vs. injury preventative care for the runner. This course addresses good patient-clinician communication, pain perception models, approachable and individualized treatment, through a graded exposure model for the runner.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Accurately describe standard biomechanics, kinematics, and kinetics of walking vs. running, explaining the differences between each.
- Identify etiology of running related injuries (RRI) and risk factors for each, as well as regions to be affected based on running type.
- Describe components of the biopsychosocial model of pain and factors related to each, in relation to RRI.
- Correctly identify the severity of RRI and discern red flags.
- Describe & demonstrate to specific corrective exercises that pertain the building up of runners specific strength, mobility, stability, and power.
- Describe each type of strike pattern, and other important components related to running and their respective implications in regards to RRI, performance, and running economy.
- Design and implement a return to running program through graded exposure based on case studies for the participant.
