Finger and Hand Fitness for School Based Occupational Therapists
Course Description
The Common Core has changed the educational landscape. How can school based occupational therapists best assist our students in meeting these new demands for writing speed, endurance and quantity? We will review the common core for writing as well as the anatomical and biomechanical considerations necessary for hand strength and dexterity. Does hand grasp really matter? What does the newest research reveal? Videos, lecture and pictures along with a case study will enhance one’s understanding of the role of occupational therapy in school based practice. We hope that your perspective will be changed through participating in this webinar.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
1) Discuss the Common Core and it’s impact upon school based practice
2) Review hand anatomy and its importance to understanding how we can better assist our students
3) Highlight recent research on pencil grasp and grip strength
4) Discuss hand exercises and activities that can help meet the new demands for hand strength and endurance
