Florida Laws and Rules for Massage Therapy
Course Description
This course was developed in order to meet the Florida Board of Massage Therapy’s Florida Laws and Rules requirement for massage therapists. This course will include a review of Chapter 456 and 480 Florida Statutes and Rule 64B7 of the Florida Administrative Code. It will cover pertinent changes to the Florida laws and rules governing massage therapy with topics to include issues in client/therapist relationships, working with the disabled and with populations of various ages, appropriate touch and draping issues and filing a complaint against an unethical or dangerous practitioner It is important for the Florida massage therapist to be informed regarding the statutes and rules that govern the practice of massage therapy in Florida.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize current laws and rules of Chapter 480 – Florida Board of Massage Therapy.
- Recall three potential violations of the Massage Practice Act (Chapter 480 and Rule Chapter 64B7) (Examples: DEM, Human trafficking, negligent practice, draping issues, unlicensed activity)
- Recognize the current laws and rules from Chapter 456 – Florida Department of Health.
- Identify four sections of Chapter 456 that affect massage therapists but are not cited in Chapter 480. (Kickbacks, Discipline, Background Checks, Student Loans, ULA, Healthcare Fraud)
