From Impact to Outcomes: Piecing Together the Concussion Puzzle
Course Description
This two hour webinar will provide a background and evidence based overview of concussion, specifically related to sport and activity as it applies to the fields of Athletic Training, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Concussion is a growing problem with new evidence arising highlighting the potential harmful effects of the injury. Early and proper recognition and management can improve these outcomes. The course will include presentation of current evidence concerning the definition, problems surrounding, evaluation, management, rehabilitation concepts and recovery of concussion among physically active individuals. In addition, recent literature and ideas concerning alternative and future diagnostic and treatment options for concussion will be discussed in a lecture format. Recent literature/evidence, pictures/videos, and case examples will all be used in the webinar presentation.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the short and long-term risk of concussive injuries
- Identify the components of and perform an advanced level concussion assessment/evaluation
- Design a comprehesnive concussion management plan
- Apply basic rehabilitation concepts and divided attention tasks to the management of concussion
