Fueling Women in Pregnancy and Post-Partum
Course Description
This 2-hour course will review current nutritional recommendations to support pregnant and postpartum women, including those who are physically active. Scope of practice regarding providing nutrition advice will also be discussed. The course will also highlight the benefits of engaging in exercise during pregnancy and post-partum. Current recommendations from professional organizations regarding exercise during pregnancy and postpartum will be reviewed. Common misconceptions regarding diet and exercise during pregnancy and postpartum will be addressed with evidence-based answers and resources.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- State at least 1 nutrient that has a higher requirement during pregnancy, and at least 1 nutrient that has a higher requirement during lactation, compared to a nonpregnant or nonlactating woman.
- Identify at least 1 reputable source of nutrition information for pregnant and postpartum women.
- Provide at least 1 reason why physical activity is beneficial during pregnancy and postpartum.
- State at least 1 form of physical activity that is safe to perform during pregnancy, and 1 form of physical activity that should be avoided or modified during pregnancy.

Satisfactory completion of this course will require the participant to complete a 10 question post-test with a minimum passing score of 70%.
