Hand Therapy for the Non-Hand Therapist
Course Description
Would you like to improve your comfort level and skill in evaluating and treating hand patients? This course is designed for OTs, OTAs, PTs and PTAs who would like a comprehensive presentation to simplify the complexities of the evaluation and treatment of this population. In addition to a complete review of upper extremity anatomy, participants will learn how to select and administer evaluation tools and maneuvers, as well as complete management of the most common upper extremity diagnoses both non-operative as well as post-operative. Method of instruction will include lecture, written material as well as video instruction.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Understand normal anatomy and how injury can cause deformity.
- Understand how scar tissue impacts structures and how to properly evaluate its involvement.
- Perform a sensory evaluation.
- Evaluate and treat:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Wrist, scaphoid & metacarpal fractures
- Mallet & trigger fingers
- DeQuervain’s tendonitis.
