Introduction to Hand Therapy
Course Description
This course will include basic evaluation, basic anatomy, stages of healing, commonly seen diagnoses and treatment of the hand. This course is perfect for the OT, OTA, PT or PTA that is interested in hand therapy but has had little or no experience in this specialty area. It will give them a general foundation to begin working as an entry level therapist in the specialty area of hand therapy.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify the essential aspects of a hand evaluation and will obtain a basic knowledge regarding evaluating the handclient (including basic understanding of ROM, MMT, pinch, grip, sensation and special tests).
- Identify the anatomy of the wrist, hand and forearm.
- Identify the stages of healing.
- Identify commonly seen hand diagnoses and
treatment (RSI injuries, common wrist and hand fractures).
