Kid Sense: Visual Perception, Body Awareness and Motor Planning Challenges, Testing, and Remediation
Course Description
Visual perception is a skill that develops and we are seeing more and more students with visual perception problems. Our students are coming into school less prepared, stressed out and demonstrating more challenges with attention. The cause is twofold: the first is inactivity and the second is seen in how our children play. Kids are made to move, and to pretend, and to solve problems and we are seeing children who are not moving as much, not pretending as much and not allowed to solve problems on their own. We have to be ready for this brave new world with the best research and treatment methodologies to help struggling students. This class takes a deep dive into visual perception, development, challenges, testing and remediation. Participants will walk away with immediate treatment solutions to many challenging problems commonly seeing in our schools and clinics today.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of how visual perception develops through experiences in play and work activities.
- Identify challenges commonly linked to visual perceptual problems seen in the classroom and at home.
- Evaluate students with visual perception issues and explain why our students are “seeing what they are seeing”.
- Implement well researched treatment plans and strategies to remediate challenges seen with visual perception.
