Management of the Cancer Patient, part I: The Basics
Course Description
Cancer diagnosis is on the rise but patients are living longer. It is imperative that we as clinicians can treat these patients. However, with this group come many challenges. This course provides a general overview of cancer, looking at the signs and symptoms, tests, treatments, and side effects. These patients are so medically complex that often practitioners don’t know where to begin. Hopefully, this course will give practitioners the confidence to take the next step in their practice with the treatment of the cancer patient when they need it the most.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Summarize cancer statistics and basics signs and symptoms
- Explain cancer tests, treatments, and potential side effects.
- Describe importance of lab values pertaining to the cancer patient.
- Recognize various oncologic emergencies a patient may experience.
