Myofascial Manual Therapy Strategies Using Compression
Course Description
This course will provide an overview and background on the role of myofascial release techniques using devices and other instruments. There will be a review of the relevant literature produced in this area with an emphasis on myofascial trigger points and the effectiveness of various interventions. This course will include positional release techniques (PRT), compression tack and flossing (CTF), and other forms of Instrument Assisted Soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM). This course will also discuss the tools and outcome measures for the assessment of kinesiophobia as it relates to the use of IASTM and CTF. Expand your toolbox and learn manual therapy techniques to deactivate soft-tissue restrictions!
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Define myofascial trigger points and review techniques for their assessment including the use of pressure algometers.
- Explain the contraindications for the use of manual therapy.
- Describe the types of instruments and devices for the use of myofascial release.
- Identify appropriate strategies for the use of Instrument Assisted Soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM).
- Recognize the applications of compression tack and flossing techniques for various upper and lower extremity conditions.
- Discuss the role of available evidence as it relates to the clinical practice of myofascial release techniques as a treatment intervention in order to reduce pain and soft tissue restrictions thereby allowing the patient to enhance their performance skills and better engage in ADLs.
