A Pediatric Guide to Working with Children with Handwriting Issues
Course Description
Are you in need of tips and tricks to teach handwriting? Are you wondering what the best programs are to use? Or what research backs your practice? Do you question when it’s time to shift a child to typing? Or whether your client is dysgraphic?
This course is designed to develop pediatric OTs & OTAs knowledge of handwriting, current research, and best alternatives to dysgraphia. Through functional, meaningful training, the course will teach you the tips and tricks that help children learn to write, as well as the research that supports your work. This course is of value to OTs & OTAs that want to have a greater understanding of how to work with children with handwriting delays.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the components of handwriting (tools, presentation, preparation, grip, pressure, motor planning, seating)
- Understand the prevalence of handwriting issues
- Understand current research supporting OT work with handwriting
- Manage the total child (considering common comorbid conditions associated with handwriting delays)
