Pediatric Physical Therapy Functional Outcome Measures

Course Description

In recent years, the American Physical Therapy Association has stressed the importance of the use of standardized, functional outcome measures to assess patient progress and intervention effectiveness.  This course provides a general overview of functional outcome measures that are commonly used in pediatric physical therapy practice and is designed to develop therapist knowledge of selected functional outcome measures across levels of the ICF. Outcome measure administration and interpretation, based on current research related to functional outcome measure normative data for pediatric populations, will also be discussed. This course will provide clinicians with additions to their “PT Toolbox” that can incorporated into clinical practice the following day.

The course will be a combination of lecture and video instruction.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:

• Define functional outcome measure
• Differentiate functional outcome measures from standardized pediatric assessments
• Identify common functional outcome measures utilized in pediatric physical therapy practice that correlate to each level of the ICF model
• Describe the administration of selected pediatric functional outcome measures
• Discuss interpretation of pediatric functional outcome measure data, in relationship to current available evidence
• Use selected pediatric functional outcome measures in clinical practice

  Satisfactory completion of this course will require the participant to complete a 10 question post-test with a minimum passing score of 70%.
