Professional Ethics for Massage Therapists
Course Description
This 2-hour course will cover roles and boundaries, professional behavior issues and ethical violations. It will include ethical considerations in the field of massage therapy as they relate to the areas of dual relationships, pricing, boundaries, confidentiality, informed consent and scope of practice. Common barriers to proper communications between clients and therapists will also be addressed as well as steps to resolve ethical dilemmas.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize potential ethical considerations for massage therapists as they relate to the areas of dual relationships, pricing, boundaries, confidentiality, informed consent and scope of practice.
- Recognize 2 types of communication breakdown that can lead to boundary violations for massage therapists.
- List the American Massage Therapy Association Code of Ethics principles and rules
- Recall six steps to resolve ethical dilemmas
