The Fight Against Ageism
Course Description
According to the latest census report (2019), Baby Boomers represent 73 million of the population in the United States. With more health and energy – Boomers are ambitious and expect to spend their retirement years fulfilling travel dreams, spending time with their grandkids, and checking off bucket-list items. This population is often healthy enough to still run marathons, participate in recreational sport, and explore new hobbies that may be physically demanding. Many myths and stereotypes have categorized this age group as being frail, dependent, and weak often misleading health practitioners to under prescribe exercise.
The primary focus of this course is to demonstrate that with proper regular physical activity, aging adults can increase active life expectancy by limiting the development and progression of chronic and disabling diseases. This 2-hour webinar is designed to present an evidence-based approach primarily focusing on effective therapeutic exercise for the aging adult between the ages of 40-110 years old. Attendees will learn how to properly assess impairments using reliable standardized tests and learn how to design specific individualized therapeutic programs that will improve patient outcomes. Clinicians will learn how to establish a comprehensive multi-modal exercise program and incorporate various strength equipment including kettlebells, barbells, and dumbbells.
