The Home Health Therapist: Essentials of Pharmacology
Course Description
This course will review the basic principles of pharmacology as it relates to the home health patient. High risk drugs per OASIS E categories will be discussed. Special highlight will be given to drug interactions, adverse effects, assessment of effectiveness and the importance of medication review.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Explain pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and apply these concepts to a patient’s medication list.
- Identify high risk drugs and recognize common side effects/adverse effects
- List at least 2 side effects pertaining to each high risk drug medication category and provide education to the patient regarding these side effects.
- Recognize the OASIS data items regarding medications and select the appropriate answer
