Therapeutic Strategies for Surgeries, Scars and Burns
Course Description
Deepen your therapy skills by exploring how manual therapies can affect traumatic/surgical scars and burns. This class is designed to help you expand your knowledge about the effects of touch on the human body. Scars are very individual and personal. We will explore the physical AND emotional aspects that scars may have on our clients. The regular use of gentle manipulations, the added active movements, and various hydrotherapies can help clients embody their scarred tissues and develop skills to adapt and cope with their scarred, even traumatized tissues.
We will ask the question: Do scars change in response to gentle myofascial stretching, pulling, and shearing? Can clients improve their range of motion, reduce pain, reduce anxiety, improve mood, sleep better with ongoing manual therapy and self-care treatment?
Scar management is an important quality of life issue for clients with surgical scars, traumatic scarring, and/or burn scars. The simple manual therapies you will learn in this class are an important support for your clients. You will be encouraged to teach these skills to patients for better internal awareness (interoception) and strong, functional tissue repair.
