Using Yoga Practices in Occupational and Physical Therapy Treatment: Implementing Simple Practices into the Treatment Plan
Course Description
Yoga has gained popularity with the general public in the past 20 years as a way to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and manage stress. Studies show that more patients than ever before are interested in complementary practices when they face medical challenges. The holistic nature of yoga has many facets to it and therefore can be a valuable modality to the rehabilitation professional. This webinar will cover the basics about the ancient practice of yoga and how simple physical (asana) and breath (pranayama) practices can be of benefit to our patients. Through case studies, this course will address how the practice of yoga can be incorporated into the treatment plan of patients with varying diagnoses.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Summarize the basics about the ancient Eastern practice of yoga and its transition to contemporary times in the West
- Identify simple physical (asana) and breath (pranayama) practices first hand to recognize the possible benefits for patients
- Explain how practices from yoga can benefit individuals with different diagnoses (using case studies or input from participants) to include improved function.
