Why isn’t your Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) Patient getting better? New Treatment Strategies using Mechanism Based Treatment
Course Description
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a constellation of somatosensory abnormalities, motor dysfunctions, autonomic abnormalities and body perception disturbances which are characteristic of neuropathic pain, often following a minor or major musculoskeletal trauma. This disorder most often starts in the distal segment of either the upper or lower extremities and is characterized by disproportional pain which often spreads to non- traumatized tissue or to other body parts. Management of this disorder is challenging because there is a lack of clinical research data and only therapeutic strategies directed toward the peripheral symptoms without identifying the central symptoms and mechanisms driving the changes resulting in less than optimal outcomes. Researchers have now developed a model for using mechanism informed management of the signs and symptoms for treating CRPS. This webinar will discuss the most common mechanisms involved in CRPS as well as discussing new treatment strategies for identifying the mechanisms producing the signs and symptoms as well as appropriate treatment ideas for therapists.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the mechanisms behind the signs and symptoms of CRPS.
- Identify the appropriate treatment strategies for mechanism-specific rehabilitation management
- Experience a paradigm shift in treating CRPS1 and CRPS2 using movement based techniques.
- Design a treatment program that uses neuroplasticity in treating somatosensory dysfunctions.
- Recognize the importance of neuroscience education for CRPS patients and treating both the mind and body
